Electrical Stimulation Therapy

What is Electric Stimulation (stim) Therapy?

Electric stimulation therapy is a form of non-invasive Chiropractic Adjunctive therapy that uses electrical stimulation to treat muscle pain and spasms. Electrical stimulation uses tiny pulses of low frequency electricity to cause a single muscle or a group of muscles to contract. By placing electrodes on the skin throughout different parts of the body, we are able to help contract the muscle via electrical stimulation and help strengthen the affected muscle. Electrical stimulation therapy is not painful and the setting can be changed to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood supply to the area that assists in healing.

Electric therapy mimics what happens within human cells by working to enhance the physiological processes. A study coordinated by Prof. Bert Op ‘Eijnde, from the University of College in Hasselt, Belgium, shows that electric stimulation therapy has a positive and statistically significant effect in improving endurance and reducing fatigue and chronic pain.

Electric stimulation works at a cellular level to boost energy and restore homeostasis.

Electric therapy does not hurt. It progresses from a gentle tingling into a massage-like sensation as the frequency is increased. The therapy normally lasts anywhere from ten to 15 minutes.

What Is Electrical Stimulation Used For?

Electrical stimulation therapy has been used to treat a variety of conditions including:
